Mt Dare
The Mount Dare Hotel is located on the western edge of the Simpson Desert. The homestead is privately owned and operated 7 days a week. It's the crossroads for travellers to Uluru to the west, Alice Springs in the north, the Oodnadatta track and Flinders Rangers to the south and to Birdsville in the east acrooss the desert. A 71km drive by 4wd drive to Dalhousie Springs connects to the French line which cross's west to East along the Simpson Desert.
There is accomadation with basic cabins, or stay in the bush camp grounds. You will need to carry wood in with you if you want to have a camp fire here as there is no wood collection allowed with in the Witjira Natinal Park.
The hotel offers Breakfast and dinner meals along with a bar to quench a thirst. Stock up on bread and milk along with some very basic supplies. There is also a mechanical workshop for tyre and 4WD trailer repairs. Unleaded and Diesel fuel are also available.
For people crossing the Desert, Satellite phone hire is also available here on a minimum 4 day hire costing approx $140 plus any calls made (check the agreement for rates) you can hand in the hire Sat phone at the birdsville information centre. You will need a Credit card to hire the phone. Cash is not accepted.
